His Holiness Bodhisatvan Madhavacharyan, a great humanitarian and spiritual master (Guru), is the founder of Nirvana Yoga. The science and philosophy of Nirvana Yoga were developed through fifty years of deep research and penance. The mission behind this creation is the spiritual renaissance of the world — for the upliftment of humanity and the harmony of nature. This global transformation begins with the inner development of each individual.

The teachings emphasize the acquisition of true knowledge through the awakening of consciousness. Such awakening is possible only through spiritual transformation and the purification of the mind. Realization of the oneness in all beings, selfless service to society, and righteous living are essential to creating a peaceful world.

Birth

Guru Madhavacharyan was born in 1950 in an illustrious family in Kudappanakkunnu, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, as the son of Kamalakshi Amma and Krishna Pillai.

Parents

The mother, Kamalakshi Amma, was a deeply spiritual person who possessed divine attributes. She lovingly guided her son on the spiritual path at various stages of life.
The father, K. Krishna Pillai, was a yogi who upheld righteousness in thought and action throughout his life.

Childhood

Guruji’s childhood was unlike that of other children. The inherent spirituality began manifesting at a very young age. After sunset, he would experience unknown inner states of difficulty, which led him to stay overnight in a nearby Lord Shiva temple, absorbed in deep meditation.

He preferred simple food — rice and jaggery — and was uncomfortable with the taste of spices. As a school student, he performed well in studies and was filled with a strong spiritual quest to know the ultimate reality and to experience the divine presence of God.

At the age of twelve, Guruji began learning and practicing Yoga on his own. Later, he studied under a reputed Yoga teacher in Kerala, though the teachings then focused mainly on strenuous asana practice. Unsatisfied with this limited approach, his intense search for knowledge and self-realization led to higher learning and deeper spiritual practices (Tapas).

At sixteen, he experienced powerful vibrations of energy throughout the body, especially in the head region, due to the awakening of Kundalini. The lower body became weak, but the spiritual energy rose to the higher chakras. This state lasted for about three years, until he transcended it through yogic practices.

Social Service

From a young age, Guruji dedicated life to the service of humanity, believing that service to humanity is service to God. He actively involved himself in the struggles of ordinary people, seeking lasting solutions to their problems.

He realized that the evils in society stem from the evils within individuals. For forty years, he worked tirelessly for social welfare and gained deep insight into the root causes of human suffering.

Mastering the Science of Yoga and Spiritual Healing

During this period, Guruji taught Yoga to the public to help them overcome life’s problems. Through research, he explored the therapeutic applications of Yogic practices and conducted more than a hundred Yoga therapy camps across Kerala. He also organized several Yoga Teacher Training Courses in association with Vivekananda Kendra.

Guruji studied and researched various alternative healing systems and became one of the most renowned healers in Kerala by the end of the twentieth century. He introduced Laughter Therapy in Kerala and helped spread it widely throughout the state.

The Spiritual Quest Continues

Guruji learned Vipassana, the Buddhist meditation system conducted as ten-day intensive meditation programs across India. He participated in these programs more than fifteen times. However, he realized that Vipassana alone was not sufficient to reach higher states of spirituality.

Back home, Guruji spent long hours in meditation, which gradually evolved into a deeper and more refined meditative state. This later came to be known as Amasana Meditation.

Establishment of the Ashram

In the year 2000, following his mother’s instruction, Guruji established Thapovanam Siddhashramam at Aryankavu, Mulayarathala, Kudappanakkunnu, Thiruvananthapuram — the site of the family’s ancient temple.

By this time, Guruji had turned fully inward, dedicating his life to meditation and the search for the ultimate truth — a complete system to free humanity from suffering. During deep meditation, he received the first divine revelation:

“The notion of relation and relative is inexistent.
All that exists are mere bondages.
Unwind the bondages and seek the true relative.
Perform your duties selflessly.”
From that point onward, Guruji began receiving spiritual revelations from the Almighty — a complete science and philosophy for transforming life from evil to good, ignorance to wisdom, ill health to positive health, and hatred to love.

More than three hundred scriptures have been written to date, most of which remain unpublished. The knowledge contained in these sacred works is imparted to disciples, devotees, and students through Guruji’s discourses.

Nirvana

People from many places began visiting the ashram for spiritual guidance and healing through Yoga. Guruji’s forty years of research and penance culminated in the attainment of Nirvana during the midnight of Shivarathri, on 8th March 2005.

Nirvana is the ultimate liberation from individual consciousness, the complete merging of the soul with the Supreme Energy (Adi Shunya Bala Shakthi) — the primordial energy that is the cause of all creation.
Through this divine oneness, Guru functions as the living source of that supreme energy.

In Nirvana Yoga, the flow of this energy from the Source to the practicing soul brings about transformation of the body and mind, removing the root cause of all imperfections and disorders. This divine transmission of energy makes Nirvana Yoga a unique and complete system.

The Spiritual Renaissance Mission

The mission of Guru Madhavacharyan is the spiritual renaissance of the world — transforming life from evil to good, ignorance to wisdom, ill health to positive health, and hatred to love.

Guruji reminds the world:

“Never be grievous about the past or anxious about the future.
Yesterday has gone, tomorrow is not yours.
Live in the Present.
Do the right thing at the right moment.
This is the Art of Wholesome Living.”
